What is TMJ Dysfunction?

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction is a common condition that limits the natural function of the jaw, such as opening the mouth and chewing, and can cause pain. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a hinge joint that connects your jaw to your skull in front of your ear. Did you know that more than 10 million Americans are currently suffering from TMJ dysfunction?

How Can a Physical Therapist Help?

The physical therapists at Color Country Physical Therapy are trained to evaluate and treat TMJ dysfunctions. Treatment may include posture education, specific movements of the neck, hands-on techniques (manual therapy) to gently increase movement and relieve pain, exercise prescription, and modalities such as electrical stimulation or ultrasound.
